The Cluster Mapping Project uses detailed county level data and statistical techniques to profile
regional economies and their performance over time, with a special focus on clusters.
Clusters are geographically concentrated groups of interconnected companies, universities,
and related institutions that arise out of linkages or externalities across industries.
Regions and clusters are analyzed at various geographic levels including states, economic areas,
and metropolitan areas. A more detailed description of the project, including its methodology,
is accessible from the main menu within the site.

Not Registered?
If this is your first time visiting the Cluster Mapping Project, please start the free registration process below in order to gain access to the site.
The site consists of two parts:
Free Site
The free site is open to all registered users and includes access to a wide range of data on the overall performance and competitive position of traded clust
ers for all U.S. states, economic areas, and metropolitan areas. National benchmarks are included for most charts. Now including 2000 data, all data is upd
ated on an annual basis.
Subscription Site
The second site, available on a subscription basis, includes more extensive and detailed data on all U.S. regions:
- Data at the subcluster level, which allows you to understand the performance of parts of a cluster - in automotive, for example, forgings a
nd stampings or vehicle assembly. This allows a more granular analysis of a region's or a cluster's competitive position.
- Historical time-series charts going back to 1990.
- The ability to download portions of the data in a raw form.
Users of this detailed data are asked to subscribe at an annual fee of $250, to help defray a portion of the substantial costs of collecting, analyzing, and
updating the data for the project.
After completing the registration process, you will have the opportunity to subscribe from the main menu.
